How to Pitch Your Music to Music Supervisors, Radio and Playlist Curators

Distribution gets your song into Spotify, Apple Music and every other store. It doesn't get anyone to press play. That part still runs through people: the music supervisor choosing a song for a TV scene, the program director deciding what goes into rotation, the curator updating a playlist on Friday.

Reaching those people used to mean hiring a publicist or buying a contact list that was out of date before you opened it. Now you can do it yourself. These are the three tools we point Eclipse artists to, one for each door:

  • SyncPlacement for film, TV, ads and games
  • Radio Promo for radio airplay
  • Playlist Supply for Spotify and YouTube playlists

All three come from the same team behind Booking-Agent.io, and they work the same way. You search by the sound of your music, see who is actually placing, playing or adding music like it, then get their contact details and pitch them directly.

Eclipse Distro is an affiliate partner of all three tools, so we may earn a commission when you sign up through the links in this post. It costs you nothing extra.

SyncPlacement: get your music into film, TV, ads and games

A sync placement is when your song is licensed for a show, film, ad, trailer or game. The license pays an upfront fee, and when the show airs it can earn performance royalties on top. One good placement can also put a song in front of an audience no playlist reaches.

Music supervisors choose most of those songs. The hard part is knowing which supervisors use music like yours. SyncPlacement starts from your sound, not from a directory:

  1. Describe your music in plain words, like "dark cinematic" or "dreamy vocals, slow-burn build". Sharpen it with mood and genre, or enter a reference artist, and filter by TV, film, games or ads.
  2. See real placement history: which supervisors placed what, on which shows, and how recently.
  3. Unlock their contact details, a verified email plus LinkedIn where available, for one credit each. Then export your list and track every pitch from "Contacted" to "Deal closed".
SyncPlacement's search screen: a free-text description of a sound with mood and genre filters, above a list of music supervisors with their contact, the placement they were found through, and a pitch status such as Contacted, Meeting or Deal Closed.
Describe the sound, then see the supervisors who have placed music like it. From SyncPlacement's product demo, with example data.

Searching is unlimited on every plan, and credits are only spent when you unlock a contact. Plans start at $29.99 a month with 50 credits.

Before you pitch: supervisors need to clear a song fast. Have an instrumental and a clean version ready, and get every writer's and producer's split agreed in writing first. Our split sheets guide walks you through it. SyncPlacement is upfront that it can't guarantee a placement. It gets you to the right people, and your song and your pitch do the rest.

Radio Promo: get airplay without hiring a plugger

Radio still breaks songs. A station that plays your genre puts you in front of listeners who already like that sound, and once a station adds a song it tends to play it again and again. Airplay can also earn performance royalties for the song's writers, collected through your performing rights organization.

Radio Promo is a real-time search engine for radio stations, DJs, show hosts and program directors:

  • Search by a similar artist, a track or a genre. It scans each station's programming history to find the stations already spinning music like yours, from college radio to major-market FM.
  • See every match on a world map, and open any station to see its details and staff.
  • Reveal the music director's contact, with their name, position, email and LinkedIn where available.
Radio Promo's station search: a world map of matching stations, a station card listing its DJs, hosts and directors with Get Email buttons, and a music director's revealed email and LinkedIn.
Search by a similar artist, open a station and reach the person who decides what gets added. From Radio Promo's product demo, with example data.

Plans start at $29.99 a month, with unlimited radio emails and 50 contact-finder credits.

Before you pitch: programmers can only play what's clean. Send a radio edit with no explicit lyrics and a short intro, and tell each station why your song fits its listeners. Never pay for guaranteed spins. Paying a US commercial station for airplay without disclosing it is illegal, and it's called payola.

Playlist Supply: find playlists with real listeners

Playlists are one of the main ways listeners find new music on Spotify. The catch is that plenty of big playlists are padded with bots, and a placement on one can do more harm than good.

Playlist Supply helps you find curators worth pitching, and check their playlists first:

  • Search Spotify and YouTube playlists by genre, mood, keyword or similar artist. It covers YouTube playlists as well as Spotify.
  • Similar Artist Search reads the "Discovered On" section of artists who sound like you. Those are the playlists where listeners are actually finding those artists.
  • PlaylistVet checks a playlist before you pitch it. It looks at the first 30 artists on the playlist and scores how many of them list it under "Discovered On". A big follower count with a low score is the classic sign of a botted playlist.
  • Curator contacts and 1-click pitching from your own Gmail. It also works inside ChatGPT and Claude, if you'd rather ask than click.
Playlist Supply's search tool showing Spotify playlists found by Similar Artist search, with follower counts, curator names, social links, and a Vet and Pitch button on every row.
Every result has a Vet button to check the playlist and a Pitch button to email the curator. From Playlist Supply's product demo, with example data.

Plans start at $19.99 for the first month, then $24.99 a month. PlaylistVet and Similar Artist Search come with the Viral plan, which is $29.99 for the first month, then $34.99.

Before you pitch: only pitch playlists with real listeners, and never pay for guaranteed streams. Artificial streams can get a release taken down from the stores.

If you have a single coming out, start with Playlist Supply and pitch in the first few weeks after release, while the song is new. If a song is connecting with listeners, take a radio edit of it to Radio Promo and work it for a few weeks. SyncPlacement is the long game: any finished song you control, with an instrumental ready, can be pitched for sync at any time, years after release.

Before you pitch anyone

A pitch usually gets one read. Make sure these are true first:

  • Your release is live, or scheduled with its links ready to share. See releasing your first song.
  • Every writer and producer has agreed their split in writing. See split sheets.
  • Any sample or interpolation in the song has been cleared. See sample clearance.
  • You can say in two lines what the song is, who it's for, and why it fits their show, station or playlist.

Then keep every pitch short and personal. Use their name, mention something they've placed, played or added, and link one song, not your whole catalog.

All three tools, with a walkthrough video for each, are on our Pitch Tools page. Your music is already in the stores. Now go get it heard.
